Camouflage

25th of November until the 31st of December, 2006

Heinz Schmöller uses himself, his biography and his surrounding for a fundus, a material store, and arrives at universal, anti-biographic objects and images. His approach is an infantile escapism, which seeks fort he direct contact with the viewer, while it evades an analysis at the same time.

In his new exhibition Camouflage he presents an installative sculpture park. In the middle of the room we find large mushrooms, camouflaged with the well-known army colours and a green fury suit with a fury helmet. A video projection leads us deeper into the forest.
The video shows a 360° turn of a woods panorama. In the woods we find animated animals that play themselves and fit in the nature scene. Nature becomes an abstract symbol system.
The green fur suit in the gallery room shows up again in the video. The artist inside the fur suit tries to enter unnoticed this cosmos of organized innocence. It stands for the helpless try to understand nature by observation and imitation, aiming to insert oneself or one's self into the woods.
A bold venture, accompanied with obstacles. His conclusion is:
"After a long period of observation I realized that the forest is alive and observes me."
