The paintings of Tilmann Walther implicate the border crossing: through the use of carpet as surface of the picture, the new works circulate between object art and painting. Therewith the interest in the character of the surface respectively the intercourse decides with perfunctory processes in his artistic creation. The paintings save all the energy and profoundness of a sprouted incurrence. The result is not smooth but rather raw; grown but irregular.
As astonishing as the paintings base is the subject matter: on the large format a luminously lake-pyramid is to be seen, the tomb of the Prince of Pückler-Muskau lays in the park of Branitz near Cottbus which he himself laid out. Thanks to the coincidental and spontaneous method of operation, Walthers sculptural, as well as his pictorial works bristle up with vividness and anarchy.
